FAYETTEVILLE–Arkansas Razorback Matt Walters took the court with authority to earn a spot in Sunday’s consolation finals at the 2009 Rebel Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. The Razorbacks had a solid performance on Saturday posting a 3-1 record in both singles and doubles.
“We played much better today,” Arkansas head coach Robert Cox said. “I am very proud of our guys for coming back and being resilient after a tough opening day.”
Walters defeated UNLV’s Attila Toth, 6-3, 6-2, in the semifinals of the consolation round. He will advance to play Cal Poly’s Jordan Bridge in the finals on Sunday. In the consolation semifinals, Bradwin Williams fought hard but lost in a three battle to Stanislav Glukohov of Idaho, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
“I am pleased with Matt’s performance,” Cox said. “ And expect him to finish the tournament strong.”
