Walters Williams pick up wins at Navy

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Razorback men’s tennis opened the fall portion of its schedule at the Navy Invitational on Friday, Sept. 12. Nick Spinazze, Matt Walters and Bradwin Williams traveled to Annapolis for the weekend tournament.

"Today was a good way to open this tournament," head coach Robert Cox said. "Bradwin (Williams) had a good win and I was happy to see him step up. He’s playing in flight one of singles play and that’s where he needs to be playing to improve. He did a great job day and showed what experience can bring to your game."

Williams, a junior, defeated Marcus Rebersak of Navy in singles play, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (1). In doubles play, he paired with Spinazze. The duo fell to Owen Bullard and Ramsey Lemaich of Navy, 8-2. Spinazze fell to Lemaich of Navy, 6-2, 6-3, in singles play.

"Nick is still learning what it takes to be a collegiate tennis player," Cox said. "This is a good tournament to get some playing experience. He lost today but I expect him to bounce back tomorrow and get a win."

In singles play, Walters defeated Zach Nicholson of Navy, 7-5, 6-4. Teamed with Oklahoma’s Chase Miller, Walters picked up another win in doubles play. The duo edged Rebersak and Jarrad Smoke of Navy, 9-7.

"Matt Walters was great in his Razorback debut today," Cox said. "He has an edge to him and I like that. He’s got that Razorback spirit. It was a very close, tightly contested match. He’ll need to prove himself again tomorrow but I’m happy with what I saw today."

Play at the Navy Invitational will continue at 8 a.m. on Saturday. For more information on Arkansas Razorback men’s tennis, visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
