Watkins Earns Leadership Award

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas men’s basketball senior Manuale Watkins continues to receive recognition after the conclusion of his playing career, earning the Matthew Waller Leadership Award Wednesday evening from the Supply Chain Management department in the Walton College of Business.

Named after the first department chair, the inaugural Matthew Waller Leadership Award recognizes the one Supply Chain senior who exhibits the strongest possible leadership in the classroom.

Watkins walked on to the Arkansas basketball team and earned a scholarship following his sophomore season, before serving as team captain each of his last two years. He is a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and is set to graduate next month with his degree in supply chain management.

The Fayetteville, Arkansas, native led the Razorbacks to the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament and averaged 6.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game during his senior year. During his four-year career, Arkansas won 91 games, played in two SEC Tournament championship games and advanced to the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament in two different seasons.

Watkins is responsible for a pair of game-winning shots on the road in SEC play, including a jumper with 23 seconds left as the shot clock expired to knock off No. 21 South Carolina this season. He was also responsible for the heroics during his sophomore year at Ole Miss, hitting his patented floater with 6.4 seconds remaining and finishing 4-for-4 from the field in a 71-70 victory over the Rebels.

He finished his career with 477 points, 316 rebounds and 113 steals in 112 games played.
