FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team closes out the 2014 regular season this weekend with a home series against No. 7/5 Florida. The three-game series begins Friday at Bogle Park with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT). This weekend’s series will also include Senior Day ceremonies for Jayme Gee (Friday), Ashley Martindale (Saturday) and Amanda Geile (Sunday).
Games two and three against the Gators will be televised by ESPN with Adam Amin and Amanda Scarborough handling the play-by-play and color commentary duties, respectively. Saturday’s game is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start while Sunday’s series finale will begin at noon. These will be the eighth and ninth television appearances of the season for Arkansas.
During the season, UA students and fans 17 years and younger receive free admission to all Arkansas softball games with valid ID. General admission tickets are $4 and tickets for groups of 10 or more are $2 at the ticket window. In addition to television coverage this weekend, fans can listen online or tune in to KXUA 88.3 FM in Fayetteville.
Arkansas began the week as the sixth-highest scoring team in the nation at 6.92 runs per game. In the most recent NCAA stats release, the Razorbacks are also ranked among the top 30 teams nationally in slugging percentage and batting average. Devon Wallace is second among NCAA hitters with 56 walks this season and is the active career leader with 188 free passes, two shy of tying the eighth-highest total in NCAA history.
Wallace leads the Razorbacks with 12 home runs and 53 runs scored. At the plate, Clarisa Navarro carries a team-best .365 batting average with 12 doubles. Stephanie Canfield has a team-high 61 hits and 10 stolen bases. The sophomore outfielder is one hit shy of tying the 10th-best single season mark in program history. Kasey Fagan leads Arkansas with 46 RBI, four shy of the program’s single-season record. Grace Moll leads the pitching staff with 10 wins and 67 strikeouts.
Friday’s opener will be the 50th all-time meeting between Arkansas (27-25, 5-16 SEC) and Florida (42-10, 12-9 SEC), and 23rd time playing on the Razorbacks’ field in Fayetteville. The two teams have played every season since the program’s inception in 1997. This weekend’s three-game set is Arkansas’ 11th single game/series against a team ranked or receiving votes in the national polls.
