FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas senior co-captain Lizzy Whitbeck was named to the 2014 SEC Women’s Swimming and Diving Community Service Team on Friday. The team highlights a student-athlete from each SEC institution who has given back to her community through superior service efforts.
Whitbeck was involved with numerous service projects in Fayetteville including the animal shelter, Adopt-A-Park, Special Olympics, Miracle League, Feed Our Starving Children, Lift Up America with Tyson Foods and University of Arkansas’ Sweat Hawgs and Book Hogs programs.
In addition to her community service efforts, Whitbeck served as a 2013-14 team co-captain and as the secretary and team representative for Arkansas’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She made the SEC Honor Roll during each of her four years at Arkansas.
Whitbeck ended her senior season with personal and season-best performances at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Feb. 8-9. Whitbeck earned a personal-best time of 58.86 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke during the first finals session of the invitational. Whitbeck followed that performance with a season-best time of 2:10.29 in the 200 individual medley during the last session of the invite.
