White breaks YMCA record

FAYETTEVILLE – Future Razorback swimmer Susanna White broke the YMCA national record in the 200 individual medley on Tuesday evening while competing at the 2011 YMCA National Swimming Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The Razorback recruit, a product of Lynchburg, Va., went into the finals race of the 200 IM and shattered the event record when she stopped the clock at 1:58.90. The previous record of 2:00.23 was set in 2003 by former University of Florida swimmer Brittany Johnson. White came back to take second in the 50 freestyle where she finished with a personal-best time of 23.26.

White is a two-year letterwinner at Jefferson Forrest High School and is the state record holder in the 100 breaststroke. She finished third in the 200 IM as a junior at the Virginia State Championships and was named district swimmer of the year.

White joins the Razorbacks as part of head coach Jeff Poppell’s 2011 recruiting class. Along with White, distance freestyler Allison Boyle, breaststrokers Taylor Temple and Nicole Daniels as well as individual medley swimmer Tera Bradham.
