Williams gets record in win

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas scored a goal in each half and Britni Williams became the school’s all-time career wins leader as the Razorbacks posted a 2-0 Southeastern Conference soccer victory over Kentucky Sunday at Razorback Field.

Kelsey Allison put Arkansas ahead at 19:02 with her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Laurel Pastor crossed from the far side of the field to Allison, who headed the goal into the deep right corner of the net.

In the second half, Allie Chandler was fouled inside the box at the 66:46 mark by Laura Novikoff. On the resulting penalty kick, she fired a shot into the left corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.

With the win, Arkansas is 4-8-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the SEC. Kentucky is now 7-6-1 overall and 1-4-1.

"We stayed focused for 90 minutes," head coach Erin Aubry said. "And that’s what happens. To come out on a Sunday after taking an emotional beating (2-1 overtime loss to Vanderbilt on Friday) is just awesome. They need to feel rewarded."

In goal for the Razorbacks, Williams recorded two saves to extend her school record for shutouts to 26. She also recorded the 29th victory of her career to take over sole possession of first place on that chart. She had been tied with Carrie Dillsaver, who had 28 from 2003-06.

Williams also has 339 career saves to tie Dillsaver for third on that list.

Against UK, Arkansas had a 12-4 advantage in shots and a 4-2 lead in shots on goal. Kentucky had no shot attempts in the second half.

The Razorbacks were called for 23 fouls while Kentucky was whistled for 13.

For the half, Arkansas out-shot Kentucky 6-4, but both teams had two shots on goal. The Razorbacks had two corner kicks to one for UK. The Razorbacks were called for 11 fouls while UK had six.

Allison led the Razorbacks with four shot attempts, followed by Chandler with three, Laurel Pastor and Yvonne Desjarlais with two each, and Jessie Givens with one.

Allison, Chandler, Pastor and Desjarlais all had one shot on goal.

"This game shows that we’re going in the right direction," Aubry said. "That will carry on for the next few weeks."

Arkansas is on the road for a pair of games this week, playing at Mississippi State on Friday and at Ole Miss on Sunday.
