Win puts Miseviciute in tie for first all-time

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Second-ranked Aurelija Miseviciute claimed her 107th career singles victory at the University of Arkansas tying her for first all-time in a, 4-1, loss to No.17 Notre Dame on Sunday.

The 14th-ranked Razorbacks dropped the doubles point, but Miseviciute tied the match at one, 6-1, 6-0, over No. 45 Kelcy Tefft. The win ties Miseviciute with Maria Pavlidou, Brandy Brown, and Beth Wagner for most all-time wins at Arkansas.

Arkansas (3-1) gave a valiant effort as Kate Lukomskaya, Ela Kaluder, Anouk Tigun and Nanar Airapetian all forced a third-set after dropping the first. The Irish (3-0) moved ahead 2-1 when 63rd-ranked Kristin Rafael dropped Emily Carbone, 6-3, 6-2.

“Early in the season it is good to see a performance out of our team like this,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty. “Usually at this point in the season we are finding out what is wrong with our team, but our play today displayed a lot of positives.”Cosmina Ciobanu defeated Airapetian, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, while Shannon Mathews clinched the match for the Irish, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, over Lukomskaya.

“I was incredibly impressed with both teams today, and Notre Dame really looks like a final four team to me,” Hegarty said.

Notre Dame claimed the doubles point by winning the first two matches. Number one ranked Tefft and Frilling defeated Miseviciute and Kaluder, 8-1, while Mathews and Collen Rielley ended a rally by Lukomskaya and Carbone, 8-5.

The Razorbacks will be back in action on Friday, February 6th at 3 p.m. against BYU.
