Women learn postseason fate Monday night

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Razorback women’s basketball coach Tom Collen awaits the announcement of the postseason fields on Monday night.

For the second year in a row, the Division I women’s basketball field is announced on Monday, rather than Sunday.

Selection Monday begins for the women’s teams with the NCAA field at 6 p.m. central time.

Following the announcement of the NCAA tournament 64 teams, the Women’s National Invitational Tournament completes its field of 48 teams with final phone calls to invite and confirm teams.

Opening round games for the Women’s NIT begin as early as Wednesday, March 18, with the 16 first-round games among 32 teams. Second round games at the site of the 16 teams receiving first round byes start as early as Friday, March 21.

The Women’s NIT awards 31 automatic bids into its field of 48 teams to the runner-up or second place teams of the NCAA automatic bid leagues. The balance of the WNIT field is composed of at-large teams.
