Women?s cross set for Chile Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 10 Arkansas Razorback women’s cross country will host the 20th annual Chile Pepper Festival, Saturday, Oct. 18. The women’s 6K race is set to go off at 10:30 a.m. CST at Agri Park.

The Chile Pepper Festival will mark the second NCAA standard 6,000-meter run for the Razorbacks in 2008.

Denise Bargiachi, Cali George, Megan Jackson, Christine Kalmer, Samantha Learch, Ashley Mason, Jillian Rosen, Ashley Williams and Catherine White are scheduled to compete Saturday.

Abilene Christian, Alabama, LSU, Memphis, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Virginia Tech, along with No. 11 Arkansas, will compete at the Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday.

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has Arkansas Razorback women’s cross country ranked No. 10 in its most recent poll of the 2008 season, it was announced by the association Oct. 14.

Among the Southeastern Conference, Florida is ranked No. 15 while Tennessee and Georgia are receiving votes.

Also released earlier this week were the USTFCCCA regional rankings. The Arkansas harriers, the only SEC squad ranked in the region, are seated at No. 1 in the South Central Region.

Among the SEC, Arkansas harriers hold six of the top seven spots in the 4,000-meter run. In the 6,000-meter run, the Razorbacks rank five student-athletes in the top ten in the SEC with Catherine White second overall (20:30.55).
