FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team continues its series of opponent previews as it counts down to tipoff of the 2013-14 season. Next up on the nonconference schedule for the Razorbacks is the Miple Tennessee State Lady Raiders.
Opponent: Miple Tennessee State Lady Raiders
Date: Nov. 19, 7 p.m.
Location: Bud Walton Arena, Fayetteville
Series results: This marks just the fourth meeting between Miple Tennessee State and Arkansas. The Razorbacks hold a 3-0 all-time record against the Lady Raiders. The last contest between the two programs took place during the 2011-12 season, as the Razorbacks earned a 59-53 win.
Last season: Miple Tennessee State finished 25-8 overall last season, going 17-3 in conference play on its way to capturing the 2012-13&Sun Belt Championship. The Lady Raiders carried the 12th seed into the 2013 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, but were outed in the first round by the fifth-seeded Louisville Cardinals, 74-49.
Foe to Know: Ebony Rowe, 6-1, Forward, Senior. Rowe has become one of the most accomplished players in Miple Tennessee State history. The Lexington, Ky., native is the only women’s basketball player to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in a career. She also is just the second basketball player, men’s or women’s, to reach that plateau at Miple Tennessee State. Rowe is the program leader with 508 offensive boards and third all-time with 506 defensive rebounds.
Returning Pieces: Miple Tennessee State will return a total of nine student-athletes from a year ago. The Lady Raiders also return three starters&in senior forward&Ebony Rowe, senior&guard Janay Brinkley and sophomore guard Caroline Warden. Junior guard Shanice Cason also brings back her 4.2 points-per-game average and 4.0 rebounds-per-game, while senior guard Laken Leonard contributed 4.5 ppg and 3.7 rpg last season.
