Wurth-Thomas runs sub-4:00

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Former Razorback great Christin Wurth-Thomas made history in the 1,500 meters at the Golden Gala, in Rome, on Friday.

Wurth-Thomas clocked a 3:59.98 in the 1,500 meters to become only the fourth American woman to run a sub-4:00 time in the event. She earned a runner-up finish with her personal best.

"What a great race for Christin," Arkansas head coach Lance Harter, who also trains Wurth-Thomas, said. "She’s running smart and is really fit. Clocking a time like this is a testament to her tremendous work ethic and devotion to her sport and the grueling race she runs. This is a great showing for her before she starts preparations for a few more races and then the World Championships."

The 2009 USA Outdoor Championships 1,500-meter runner-up, Wurth-Thomas finished second in her specialty and cracked the four-minute barrier for the first time in her career with her finish in 3:59.98. Wurth-Thomas bettered her previous personal best of 4:01.72 from her fifth-place finish June 7 at the Nike Prefontaine Classic.

Another former Razorback was in action in Italy. Dacia Perkins clocked a personal-best time of 2:04.78 in the 800 meters while running at a meet in Nouro, Rome.
