#WXC Clinches NCAA Berth With Regional Title

WACO, Texas – The No. 3 University of Arkansas women’s cross country team claimed its fourth NCAA South Central Regional title in a row in overwhelming fashion as all seven Razorbacks finished in the top 20 of the race to qualify for the 2013 NCAA National Championship Meet. The Razorbacks scored 33 points in the meet to earn the largest margin of victory in the NCAA South Central Regional en route to the programs 18th regional title. SMU and Texas tied with 116 points and SMU was awarded the second automatic bid to the national meet. Sophomore Dominique Scott earned a second-place finish for the meet with a time of 20:04.6 to start the pack of Razorbacks across the finish line. Scott would earn a spot on the All-Region team for the second time in her career. Junior Shannon Klenke was next to finish in third-place with a time of 20:13.9 to also earn her second All-Region honors for her career. “Today was all about securing our spot to nationals,” Scott said. “We knew there were going to be a few individuals in the race that were going to go crazy out in front and make sure they qualified for the national meet because they didn’t trust their team. We did we do best and that is running in a pack, which is what we have done all season and it has really worked well for us and today it worked out well so it was great.” A pair of Razorbacks would then cross the line in eight and ninth place in Diane Robison and Grace Heymsfield, respectively. Robison turned in a time of 20:40.2 to earn her second All-Region honors. Heymsfield finished in 20:41.6 to also earn her second All-Region honors. Junior Paige Johnston was the next Razorback to cross the line and finish Arkansas’ scoring lineup in 11th place with a time of 20:46.2 which earned her second All-Region honor. “I think we followed the race plan perfectly, and we completed everything that we needed to today,” head coach Lance Harter said. “I think our big breakthrough today was Diane Robison, this race gave her a chance to move up into a scoring position. All seven of our runners made All-Region and I think we could have put a few more in there but that would have been too greedy. Our goal was to get in a good had tempo run and I think we got what we needed so we just need to stay healthy for a week and prepare for nationals“ Two more Razorbacks would finish in the top 20 of the meet in Jessica Kamilos and Sandie Raines to earn All-Region honors for each of them. Kamilos clocked a time of 20:56.6 to finish in 16th place just out of the scoring lineup. Raines in her first NCAA Regional meet finished in 20th place with a time of 21:10.0 and was just the third freshman to cross the line. All seven Razorbacks that competed were awarded All-region honors for the race. The Razorbacks will return to the course for the final meet of the season on Saturday, Nov. 23, in Terre Haute Ind.
