Zguns Named SEC Co-Player of the Week; Razorbacks 46th in FILA Rankings

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas senior Adrians Zguns has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Zguns shares the honor with Florida senior Vladimir Obradovic.

Zguns was 2-0 in dual matches against Missouri St. and Texas. The Liepaja, Latvia native knocked off Texas’ 44th-ranked Travis Helgeson in straight sets, and also posted a 1-1 record in doubles with partner Blake Strode.

The two victories by Zguns bumped him into sixth-place alone on the Razorback career wins list. His 91 career wins are just two behind Jose Lambert for fifth and three behind Cha Hoon Im for fourth. Zguns also improved his season tally to 5-0.

Arkansas (6-1) is ranked 46th in the latest FILA Intercollegiate Tennis rankings, released Tuesday. In the previous poll, the Razorbacks jumped 13 spots to No. 45. Southeastern Conference member Florida is ranked No. 1, with fellow SEC schools Georgia (No. 2) and Ole Miss (No. 5) in the nation’s top five.

The next national team rankings will be released Tuesday, February 14.

The Hogs’ next match is Sunday against Wichita St. Arkansas defeated the Shockers, 4-0, to open the season at the ITA Central Region Indoor Playoff. The match is set for 1 p.m. at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center in Fayetteville.
