Powell at LeBron Skills Academy

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sophomore forward Marshawn Powell is one of 23 elite college players participating in the LeBron James skills academy through Wednesday, July 7.  The academy is the second elite camp in which the 6-7 forward from Newport News, Va., has attended this summer after going to the Kevin Durant skills academy in late June.

Powell is one of four underclassmen participating in the LeBron James camp which is being held at the University of Akron's James A. Rhodes Arena in Akron, Ohio.  The camp began on July 5 with a two-hour workout session and continues on July 6 with another two-hour workout in the morning followed by a second session in the evening.  The camp concludes on July 7 with two additional workouts.

"Every time a player goes to one of these camps, they come back a better player," Arkansas head coach John Pelphrey said.  "Marshawn did a tremendous job for us as a freshman and we are looking for him to be even better as a sophomore.  I have always said that Marshawn is one of the hardest working players that we have and he has proved that with great workouts in the weight room this summer.  He'll take that same attitude to this camp and emerge with a new set of skills for next season."

Powell was invited to the Kevin Durant Skills Academy as one of the elite combination forwards in the country and was one of six players selected to continue his tutelage at the LeBron James Skills Academy based on his performance at the Durant camp.  Along with Powell, Alec Burks (Colorado), Chandler Parsons (Florida), Kyle Singler (Duke), Chris Singleton (Florida St.) and Chris Wright (Georgetown) were asked to participate in both elite camps.  Players at the LeBron James camp were selected based on their performances at the various skills academies for each position.
