Release: 02/14/2006

2006 (Junior/Sophomore) Arkansas was happy to wait for Jessica Cousins to emerge from a slow start.  She was the final piece to the Lady Razorbacks’ NCAA third-place and school-record 4x400-meter relay.  She briefly held the UA record in the open 400 meters.  Cousins earned all-America honors in the outdoor 4x4 and helped set three Lady Razorback relay records while scoring at the SEC indoor and outdoor championships as well as the Mideast regional and NCAA outdoor meets.  She clocked a career best of 24.31 in the 200 indoors, but dropped her 400 meter time by three seconds between the two seasons with another career mark of 53.28 outdoors.

Prior to Arkansas Cousins was a force on the track both as an individual and as a member of Clemson’s relay teams in her one-and-a-half year stay.  She won an ACC title as the third leg of the Tiger’s 4x400-meter relay and anchored the 4x100-meter relay to a regional qualifier.  She qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships and outdoor regional meet as an individual and was a multiple-time scorer at the conference championships.

Prior to College Attending Seneca High School in Seneca, S.C., Cousins broke the Bobcats’ school records in the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes, posting some of the best times of her career during that time.  She won the state championship in the 200-meter dash as a freshman while also taking the first of her four Regional Athlete of the Meet honors.  She was named team MVP in each of her final three seasons at Seneca.

Personal Born Jessica Denise Cousins on April 10, 1985, she is the daughter of Chris Otorubio and Kristina Cousins.  She has four siblings, Austin, Patrick, Cruz and Charles.
