FAYETTEVILLE - The No. 21 University of Arkansas swimming and diving team extended its lead at the Missouri Invitation in Columbia Mo., on Friday. The team continues to lead the 11-team field with 541 points and one day of competition remaining.

"I’m really happy with how they performed today," head coach Sean Schimmel said. "We came in this morning with the idea of just getting as many people back into scoring positions as possible and having control. They did that for the most part, and they got back tonight and had a very exciting night. They had a lot of really great swims and great energy on the deck.”

The Razorbacks dominated the championship final in the 200 freestyle, led by first-place sophomore Anna Mayfield (San Antonio, Texas) who finished with a time of 1:47.10 to give Arkansas its second event win of the invite. Sophomores Nina Drolc (Velenje, Slovenia), Rachel Stoehr (Lake Forest, Ill.), and Maddie Monroe (Godfrey, Ill.) also finished in the top six.

“I think they showed a lot of pride, especially in the morning,” Coach Schimmel said. “The 200 freestyle is such a tough event, and they got up there this morning and really showed what Arkansas is all about right now.”

Mayfield continued to lead the Razorbacks by placing second in the 100 backstroke with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 53.90. Senior Julia Kucherich (York, Pa.) achieved third place in the 400 individual medley in 4:16.41, and junior Nikki Daniels (Wichita, Kan.) earned third place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.27. Both finishes were NCAA ‘B’ time standards.

Senior Kesha Naylor (Saskatchewan, Canada) led the Arkansas divers with a second-place score of 283.70 on the 1-meter springboards.

The relays continued to have success, highlighted by an event win in the 800 freestyle relay by Mayfield, Jordan, Stoehr and Menzel. Their time of 7:15.56 was 5.2 seconds faster than second-place Utah. The team of Mayfield, Daniels, White and Drolc placed second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.33.

“I think the girls stayed focused,” Coach Schimmel said. “In a situation like this, it’s about who takes care of themselves the most over the six sessions. We talked about that, and our girls are on top of caring for themselves and helping each other. They were able to get out there tonight and put together two really nice relays. It was awesome.”

Saturday's events include the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1,650 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay and platform diving.

“We’ve got to do our best tomorrow to finish strong,” Coach Schimmel said. “We need to come in here tomorrow and make a statement about how we want to finish our fall season, do a great job and get people back at night in scoring positions.”

A live stream of each session and live stats will be available at ArkansasRazorbacks.com.

Tomorrow concludes competition at the Missouri Invitational. Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. and finals will begin at 6 p.m.
